95 points Jeb Dunnuck. Gracefully vibrant and alluring, this wine displays lovely aromas of currant and creme de cassis, as well as subtle notes of fresh bay leaf, laurel, and wild sage. On the palate, firm tannins and finely tuned acidity provide a seamless framework for the juicy cherry and ripe berry flavors, with hints of dark chocolate and roasted coffee adding depth and nuance to the long, elegant finish.

A benchmark producer for the region, this is a deep, dense, dark, yet elegant wine with finesse, style, and sophistication. Baja’s mosaic is on display with this artful blend that shows both hedonistic joy, and quality marks of a great producer. The nose is broad and bold and excites with earth, rock, spice, fruit, and expressions of soil; a good expensive wood streak holds it together as well. There is a calm here, a wine that shows it will age gracefully and reward some time in the cellar but also a flirtatious fun streak that says, "Drink me now!" The potential is exciting but so is the “Now" factor - the abundance of good fruit will continue to melt together with the wood features, but it all happens in the palate and the bluer tones are expressed in this more ambitious Baja estate. Tuxedos and tattoos, surfboards and ocean swells, stolen kisses at midnight, some things just belong together. Charred carne asada and rich spice, thick blackberry jam on crisp toast points, a fresh baked cherry cobbler and French vanilla ice cream. This little darling is "the sum" of great grapes from our cold climate vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills.

Bright pale lemon color with fragrant aromas of white flowers like honeysuckle and almond flowers, tropical fruits like pineapple and mango and a subtle aroma of vanilla. In the mouth it has a medium density with a creamy mouthfeel and concentrated flavors of key lime pie and honey. Excellent for drinking now and has potential for aging. Pairs well with smoked salmon, sushi or cheese.

A straw colored wine with golden green tints. This bouquet at first calls to mind fresh fruit (pears, apples, peaches) which is gradually replaced by a more evolved note of tropical fruit and then honey and vanilla.

Aromas of fresh berries, watermelon, white flowers and brioche, closely followed by flavors of wild strawberry, ripe raspberries, pink grapefruit and fresh nectarines. Organically farmed and made with Native Yeast.

Beautiful rose petals on the nose, flinty with strawberries and fresh light tropical fruits. Crisp and fresh on the palate with delicate flavours that lingers on and on.

This wine aged in French barrels for several months, but the typical Pinotage berry fruit is still very prominent. A wine that will age well, but is ready to be enjoyed now. Due to minimum filtering a sediment may form in the wine, but this is to ensure the best possible wine.

This wine has a generous fresh nose with ripe fruit aromas. In mouth, tannins reveals a smooth texture with notes of spices and cherries. Intense and well balanced.
 

93 pts, 91 pts Vinous   The 1970 has always been considered one of the great B.V. Private Reserves. Well-stored bottles continue to taste brilliantly. This wine performed spectacularly in this recent blind tasting (February, 1995), revealing a huge, complex bouquet of overripe, sweet, jammy, pruny fruit, cedar, herbs, spices, and fruitcake. Fat and rich, with unctuously-textured, chewy, expansive flavors, and a full-bodied finish, it was all this great wine can be.

This pale-pink wine is stylish, crisp and relatively dry.  Full of wild strawberry and citrus, it is lively, bright and lightly perfumed. The texture shows a touch of tannin as well as delicate minerality. Drink this well-balanced wine now.

92 pts Jeb Dunnuck. Dark ruby red, opaque center. Deep and dark, reminiscent of black cherry, plum and earl grey tea. Rich and mouth-filling pinot noir, full of black cherry and black raspberry, cracked peppercorn and spice. Refreshing cran-rasberry acidity on the back end and finish.

This red opens with vanilla and nutmeg aromas. Herbaceous and red fruit flavors blend with oaky notes and are supported by smooth tannins and a rich mouthfeel.

The 2019 ‘Acier’ Chardonnay offers bright floral aromas of stone fruits and jasmine with hints of lemon zest and mineral. A soft, sensuous texture unfolds with flavors of pear, peach, papaya, golden apple and citrus. The luscious purity of the mid-palate yields to length and focus on the back end, leading to a beautifully seamless finish.

The 2018 Red Blend offers warm aromas of brambleberry and plum with hints of dried herb and toasted oak. A sleek, seamless texture bursts with jammy flavors of strawberry, cedar and cherry cola with a whisper of spicy vanilla. Fresh acidity and a sense of minerality add lift to a juicy, mouthwatering finish. 

Franciacorta Extra Brut by Camossi is a sparkling wine characterized by freshness and elegant feature. The aroma is marked by hints of citrus, white fruit and yeast,  the taste is direct and delicate, characterized by a clear light and thin perlage.

The colour is ruby-red tending to garnet with aging. It has a persistent and deep bouquet with notes of violets, plum and spices, and a round and velvety taste, with a perfect balance of tannins that caress the palate.

The aromas are that of dark plums, blackberries, mint and a touch of cedar. It is a robust wine that accentuates the wonderful growing season. The wine was aged in small French Oak barrels of which 20% were new. The palate is rich and full with elegant balance. There is a touch of tannin in the finish that lets me know this wine will age well for some years to come. 

This deep red Sangiovese has great aromatic intensity of ripe strawberries, black currants and dried herbs. Medium-bodied and soft on the palate, with balanced acidity and ripe tannins.

90 pts Wine Enthusiast. Made entirely with organically framed Catarratto grapes, this zesty white opens with aromas of Spanish broom, chamomile and white stone fruit. The savory, linear palate offers juicy Meyer lemon, honeydew and Bartlett pear alongside bright acidity. It closes on an almond note. Certified Organic.

Overall this wine is intense & floral, with aromas of red berry fruits, hibiscus, and mineral notes. On the palate it is well-balanced & fresh with a reflection of the mineral notes from the nose, but with soft tannins with a velvety and firm texture.
 

93 pts Wine Enthusiast. This is a fresh, vibrant and buoyant style of Carignan, starting with aromas of dark berry, turned earth and crushed slate. There is a firm texture on the sip, where dark boysenberry and loamy earth flavors align.

90 pts Wine Enthusiast. Quite dark in the glass, this spin on a nearly forgotten yet historic grape smells of açai, cassis and a stony flint on the nose. It's a little lighter on the palate than expected, but blackberry, mesquite, dried herb and lava-rock flavors align just fine.Certified Organic.

94 pts Wine Spectator, 92 pts Vinous   Opaque, with deep ruby-red edges, even the sight of this wine is enticing. Very deep, rich cassis fruit, enmeshed in a smoky, mineral background, dominates the nose. Pure cassis extract is also present on the palate; a sweet entry yields to a firmly tannic, yet generous and amazingly long finish. Fine grained tannins give a serious texture to the wine. A rich, smoky spice character emerges in the aftertaste. A very complete, unctuous wine. Muscular and intensely concentrated, it nevertheless manages to display perfect balance. 

This Rose of Pinot Noir combines refreshing acidity with luscious fruit from several premier vineyard sources located within, and throughout, the beautiful Sonoma Coast. Fermented to dryness and aged briefly in neutral barrels, this wine will pair wonderfully with a wide array of dishes from salads to grilled meats. With a pleasing mouthfeel, this light to medium-bodied Rose’ delivers with flavors of strawberry and ripe raspberry, and has a smooth, easy finish.

The grapes juice at maceration taste like strawberry jam. This translates to a light color and floral, strawberry nose; descending into earthy with gamey flavors that have hints of tar and leather, and Herb de Provence. 

The 2020 is dynamic with red and black fruit, jolted by mouth-watering savory and spice. Sublimely textural, the vintage has that extra-special poof, that small but meaningful higher thread count. Superior Egyptian cotton, Côte-Rôtie?

96 pts, 95 pts Stephen Tanzer   The intense, generous nose displays hints of truffle and black pepper. This mythical Cheval Blanc is rich and full-bodied on the palate. It is also well-structured, with coffee, leather, and blackcurrant flavours - altogether unbelievably delicious, succulent, and long. Huge and incomparably rich, 1959 Cheval Blanc is complex, well-focused, and concentrated. A benchmark for the estate!  Incidentally, Gaston Vaissiere, the old maitre de chai, always recommended tasting the 1959 immediately after opening, with no decanting, as he did not think that contact with the air was beneficial for this vintage. In 2011 at the Chateau, such incredible dimension and layers on the nose. Moroccan mint. Just absolutely fascinating - intellectual and challenging from a vocabulary point of view. Such AMAZING blackberry tastes. So mouth-enveloping and totally mouth-coating. Fabulous harmony of texture, fruit and ripe tannins. Finishes two hours later on a note of prune liqueur. This is one of the best wines Bordeaux has ever produced. 

93 pts Wine Enthusiast. This is one of the top wines from this estate, a leading light in Cahors. It is structured, firm from tannins and wood aging. But the wine is also about the organically grown fruit, juicy acidity and final blackberry flavors that form a beneficial contrast to a structure that needs to soften. Drink from 2023. 

95 pts Wine Spectator.  The 1986 Ducru Beaucaillou was served by Bruno Borie both decanted and directly from bottle, poured blind. From the bottle, it has an attractive bouquet with plush blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, indeed, showing more fruité than I was expecting. There is a roundness to these aromatics, perhaps a little more like 1985 in some ways. The palate is medium-bodied and here the seriousness and structure of the 1986 vintages shows through. There is impressive body and though it felt firm and masculine on the finish, there is clearly sufficient fruit that counterbalances the backbone. The decanted version showed a little more volatility on the nose, but here I discerned more complexity on the palate. The 1986 Ducru poured directly from bottle felt a little more savory and strangely, more cohesive, with more of the terroir coming through on the slightly loamy, brown sugar-tinged finish. Tasted July 2016. 

95 pts.  From a bottle with the original cork still intact, the wine was splash decanted and served. From the moment the wine hit the glass, we all knew we were in for a mind blowing treat. On the nose, the smoke, tar, tobacco, cigar box, cherry and earthy perfume was off the hook. But the pure silk textures of all that sweet, ripe, smoky fruit was breathtaking. The wine was exactly what old, fully mature Bordeaux is all about. If you are like me and cannot these wines today, try and find a rich friend with bottles in their cellar as this is the type of wine that dreams are made of. Apologies to Humphrey Bogart. (2016)

100pts, 98 pts Vinous, 96 pts Wine Spectator, 94 pts Stephen Tanzer  One of the clear highlights of the night, the 1961 Haut-Brion races across the palate with remarkable opulence and power for a wine of its age. Layers of fruit build to a crescendo of pure pleasure, with hints of licorice, menthol, lavender, sage, cedar and leather that linger on the finish. In virtually any tasting the 1961 would steal the show, but here, in the presence of many of the estate’s legendary vintages, it is quite clear the 1961 doesn’t quite reach the heights of the 1959 of 1989. That in no way detracts from our immense pleasure, though. (2014)

94 pts Wine Spectator   This was paired up with the ’66 La Mission Haut Brion, and it was the slightly less impressive bottle of the two for the first hours it was in the glass. However, it continued to grow and gain depth as the evening wore on, and it was clearly the superior of the two wines by the time it had fully unfolded. The nose is classic HB, offering up notes of roasted cassis, plums, cigar ash, black truffles, Graves earth, and a vague topnote redolent of violets. On the palate the wine is ultimately medium-full (having put on weight as it opened up), with excellent focus and balance, and fine length and grip on the polished and complex finish. I used to think that the ’66 was a bit more of the red fruity and brick dust-like side of Haut Brion, but the last several bottles that I have tasted have moved decisively over to the black fruity side of the ledger. 100 pts, 94 pts Wine Spectator The 1986 possesses outstanding richness, a deep color, medium body, a graceful, harmonious texture, and superb length. The penetrating fragrance of cedar, chestnuts, minerals, and rich fruit is a hallmark of this wine. Powerful, dense, rich, and tannic, as well as medium to full-bodied, with awesome extraction of fruit, this Lafite has immense potential. Patience is required. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2030. Pauillac.

95 pts Stephen Tanzer and Wine Spectator   Full medium ruby. Aromas of currant, black cherry, licorice, minerals and flowers. Thick, sweet and deep; still young but in a gentler, lower-acid style than either the '86 or '96. Still, this boasts sneaky intensity and wonderful persistence. Tannins are substantial but thoroughly ripe.

93 pts James Suckling, 92 pts Wine Spectator   The wine has an intense, garnet red colour with a coppery tint and a highly refined nose, mingling attractive floral notes of lily and lilac with more complex aromas of vanilla, liquorice, tobacco and chocolate, then some more mineral notes that emerge with airing. Full on the palate, its tannins are enfolded in a stylish structure that melts into a rich array of flavours in which kirsch and blackcurrant liqueur combine with coffee, caramel and a touch of menthol. The finish is fresh and well-balanced, pleasantly long, combining power and refinement. A classic Pauillac.

Cool nose with citrus and peaches with black berries and floral aromas, a hint of bacon, rosemary and clear mineral notes. Ripe, quite juicy, slightly sweetish fruit with herbaceous and spicy notes, lively, elegant acidity and some touch of ripe tannin, persistent, slightly black berry, some rock candy in the background, stony earthy mineral notes, relatively dark style, very good, juicy, grippy and somewhat sweet finish, again with rosemary.

94 pts Wine Enthusiast. A wine of contemplation and singularity, the 2019 High Fidelity flaunts a dazzling display of Luxardo cherries, summer fig, roasted beets, cigar box, and crushed blueberry aromas. These aromas are echoed on the palate, with integrated layers of dried leaves, praline, coastal sage, cardamon, braised beef juices, nutmeg, and clove notes. Intriguing and seamless, this wine unfolds with milk chocolatey tannins and a lovely balanced acidity

90 pts Wine Spectator. Youthful and delightfully fresh, the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc offers an exhilarating bouquet of lemon curd, honeysuckle nectar, and white peach aromas. Layers of shortbread, beeswax, flint, and kaffir lime scents appear with time and heighten the complexity.

Ripe red fruits, hints of mandarin, minerality, cassis and spice. Clean, well-integrated oak, with a complex body and texture, and a dominant red fruits. Mature tannins, toffee, and mature fruits linger on the palate with a pleasant finish.

Comtesse de Malet Roquefort is one of the best discoveries in value-priced French Bordeaux we have ever found. Made by the traditional family who owns and makes Château La Gaffelière in Saint Emilion, this is a well structured, yet subtle red wine. Silky and fresh with juicy red fruits, the Merlot in the blend gives it a deep and ripe character with crisp acidity; the Cabernet Sauvignon gives it a more modern richness, and the Cab Franc imparts a tangy, delicious taste. The tannins are soft and nicely harmonized. Brighter notes of blackcurrant and plum pick up on the long finish.

94 pts  Classic Conn Valley bouquet, cassis, cigar box, black pepper and crushed granite. Complex and dense. Full bodied, blackberries, sweet tannins, coffee, chewy and concentrated long finish, lingering aftertaste. Should age effortlessly 20-25 years.
